We always knew we wanted children, but were not sure what that would look like, or how we would make it happen. We had so many conversations about the various options out there available to us, and kept returning to adoption. We strongly believe this is how we should grow our family, and so we began to learn about the adoption process. After this exploration, we knew adoption was for us. We have tremendous respect and admiration for birth mothers who make such a selfless and loving decision. We also believe we are suited to provide an environment for a child that honors his or her story.
With the decision made, we undertook the first step, which is a home study. This process involved working with a social worker who reviewed our finances, criminal histories, medical histories, and home environment. We were also interviewed multiple times and provided references from our friends, neighbors and employers. We were so happy when we received word this month that our home study was complete and cleared!
Now, we are beginning our search for a birth mother. We know that this will be an experience unique to us, although we have many friends who adopted their children and have shared their experiences. We know this part is about connecting with a birth mom that feels comfortable with us. We think this is such an amazing part of the adoption process. We believe adoption is a life long event, and the birth mom that picks us will always be a part of our child's, and our, story.
We are hopeful in our next step to becoming parents! We know the future will work out exactly as it should.
